Vol State offers academic strategy sessions to students, Oct. 14 and 27 – TheSettler.Online

Volunteer State Community College will offer two virtual study skills strategy sessions this month. The sessions will provide academic support to Vol State students.

The sessions will be hosted by Vol State’s Black Student Association, Learning Commons, Thigpen Library, TRIO Student Support Services Program, and Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Volunteer State Community College’s food service provider, First Choice Foods, announced it will no longer supply Vol State’s cafeteria after the fall 2021 semester. For this reason, Vol State’s cafeteria, also known as “The Grill” will be out of operation until a new food service provider is adopted.

Vol State fundraising event “Complete the Dream” hopes to raise $50,000 for students – TheSettler.Online

Sumner Regional Medical Center is sponsoring a fundraising event at Bluegrass Yacht and Country Club to raise funds for Volunteer State Community College. The event will take place Thursday, Nov. 4, from 5:30 – 9 p.m.

Alison Webster, Vol State’s resource development officer, organized the event with her fellow Foundation Office committee. Vol State student president ambassadors play a role in assisting with the event as well.

Volunteer State Community College’s Office of Student Engagement and Support will be hosting a job fair Monday, Nov. 15 through Thursday, Nov. 18. There are estimated to be a total of 21 employers from a variety of industries.

Students exploring employment options are encouraged to attend so that they may ask questions and apply for jobs. According to the flyer posted in the Wood Campus building, representatives from the following companies will be present on the corresponding days.

Vol State invites guest speakers to World Food Day event Thursday, Oct. 21 – TheSettler.Online

Volunteer State Community College will host a virtual and on-campus World Food Day event Thursday, Oct. 21. Students and staff are invited to learn more about sustainable and culturally diverse foods from guest speakers and student projects.

Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) speaker, Jinal Shah, will give a presentation discussing nutrition starting at 9 a.m. Shah’s presentation will occur over Zoom. Shah studies Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics and last spoke in India in 2018.
